The Challengers yesterday were Ladies Club Champions Sharren Kjenstad & Linda Day
(talk about credentials!)
The usual exchange of Challenger entrance fee took place before the match……with a difference.
Linda decided to add a twist, and rather than pay the usual £5, she offered a more disturbing proposition.
For each hole Captain & Vice lost (confident wasn’t she?), the Avon Ladies could paint a fingernail of Captain & Vice, and donate £1 to the Charity.
‘No way….absolutely not….not while on this earth….not till Adam buys a pint……will we ever agree do that!’
So having agreed to do it…….off to the 1st tee.
Captain & Vice were very quickly 2 down after 2 holes following a couple of pars from Sharren and bogies from the Captain.
2 DOWN
A 4 net 3 from the Captain could only equal Lindas 4 net 3 on the 3rd
(yes….Linda was getting 18 shots!) …..but it stopped the rot. Not for long however, as the ladies won the 4th
3 DOWN
On the 5th, (Captain & Vice’s favourite £2k hole) and the Captain was on the green, and then through the back. The chance of a win disappeared with his fluffed chip as Linda halved it (with the extra shot).
6th & 7th were halved……but Captain & Vice must have a chance on the 8th.
A difficult hole for a 26 handicap surely? No chance….’Ding Dong…Avon Calling’ …into the middle of the fairway over the brook!
All four over safely. Captain was waiting to putt after 3. Linda just off the green for 3…..’Ding Dong…Avon Calling’….25 feet and in it goes! Captains 20’ lips out….nuff said.
4 DOWN
A hard fought 9th with par’s for Sharren and Captain, and we only had 4 fingers to paint.
10th hole….and while Captain went off to play on his own up the 12th, Vice finally realised he might not have enough fingers for this paint job, so he woke up! Out of the fairway bunker, onto the green and putt for par….a WIN!
3 DOWN
Short lived euphoria on 11, as Captain went long through the green …again.
‘Ding Dong…Avon Calling’ (do I get a shot on this hole? ) Linda won with a 3.
4 DOWN
Off to the 13th. Ladies first (as usual). Captain & Vice surmised…if ‘shot a hole’ Linda gets on the green here….we are in trouble. ’Ding Dong…Avon Calling’….we are in trouble! Worse than that, Sharren throws one in just a couple of feet from the pin! One birdie later and it’s all over.
LOST 6&5
4th loss for Captain & Vice and 2nd loss to a Ladies pair
(Sorry Lady Captain Bella and Lucy, but the Avon Ladies are now the current leaders)
Off to the bar for a manicure, and application of war paint to reflect the score as (reluctantly) agreed. However, the charity was the winner with a generous £25 being paid for the humiliation!
Great fun and great company ladies thank you, and well done on a great round of golf.
Challenge hopefuls No 16 are Lady Vice Captain Margaret Judge and Ladies Club Championship winner and 2 time Captain Vice Challenge winner Sharren Kjenstad (no…not again!)
Current Record: 11 Wins 0 Draws 4 Loses
Happy Golfing
Captain Phil & Vice Captain Mark
