Dear Members of Ramsey Golf Club
August already, and the season is about to reach its peak with lots of events during the month.
The RAF Trophy is this Saturday, and the Hurricane flypast is scheduled for 1432hrs over the deck area. I hope you can bring family and friends down to enjoy the spectacle.
President’s Day
Due to the planned major works on the greens in September, the Presidents Day is earlier than usual this year on Saturday 26th August….…less than 3 weeks away.
Madame President Ina is planning lots of prizes for the event.
Booking closes in 8 days time so please book in, and support our President.
Captain’s Day – Sat 19th Aug
Thank you to all this who have already booked in for Captain’s Day, and to all those sponsors who are kindly supporting the event. All the par 3’s have a ‘hole in one’ prize with a top prize £10,000 cash for a ‘hole in one’ on the 13th. Club Member Andrew Jones of BL Catering has kindly offered an amazing additional prize for the 2nd hole;
Nearest the pin on the 2nd will win a Champagne Afternoon Tea for 2 at the Savoy Hotel!
V1 Hub – Competition Fund Balance – NEWS!
I reminded Members last month about the Club V1 Hub app, which is available to download from your app store. IPC Paul Judge has been working tirelessly and diligently (for years!) to introduce a payment system which will allow Members to easily top up their competitions balance through the App. I am delighted to say that the system is now in place!
If you look at your balance in your competition fund (in the App) you will see a ‘top up’ button. You can now securely add funds using a bank card; as you would any on-line purchase.
Our thanks go to IPC Paul, and all those involved in getting this system ‘over the line’.
A separate letter will follow with more details.
Scratch Team
Everyone enjoyed the Texas Scramble fund raiser with the Scratch Squad last week. Over £600 was raised with some amazing four ball prizes available. Thank you to all those who supported the event.
The Scratch Team have continued their 100% win record after their nail biting win over Newmarket Links GC in the County foursomes final last month, and quickly followed that result with their semi final victory in the Goddard Cup.
They now face St Neots GC in the final of this prestigious competition on Sunday 10th September at Saffron Walden GC (amenment). They are already recruiting caddies, and any support on the day will be appreciated by the Squad.
Ladies
Our Ladies team have had an amazingly successful season this year, and the team were unlucky to lose the semi final of the County Grace Norman competition at Lakeside GC last week. It went right down to the 18th hole in the decider match.
Fingers crossed for a reversed result in the County Jean Wilkinson semi/final day on 28th Sep at St Neots GC (TBC).
County Open (Sun 20 Aug)
County President Alan Duggins is visiting our Club today to review the course, and make suggestions for any works that may be needed; primarily for refereeing purposes.
HGK Richard and his team will appreciate any help from volunteers over the next two weeks to help prepare the course. There is a list in the gents locker room if you can spare a few hours in the day or evening during the run up the the event.
Your Club needs you!
County Open – Spaces
If you would like to enter the Open, there is still time. The handicap limit is up to 12 and the Durman Handicap Trophy for best net is a prize of £200!
It must be a great opportunity for those with home advantage! Entry is via the CAGU website:
https://cagu.co.uk/mens-golf/championships/#/competition/3707386/info
Course Courtesy
Due to the County Open disruption on the Sunday, I have managed to arrange a number of tee times with other County Clubs, and a summary of all those who responded is attached here. Please note that Gog Magog tees must be booked via myself, and not directly with the Club.
Please contact the relevant Club pro shop directly to book one of the reserved tees.
There are no am times being offered, but there would be no harm in asking when you phone to book.
Bunkers
Members are asked to make sure that the bunker rake is left inside the bunker after use and not left on the fringe; or any part of it. It causes an obstruction and can influence the ball when in play.
Horses Field – 14th (New)
The Club has received complaints from the landowner that golfers are entering the horse’s field on the 14th hole to retrieve golf balls.
All Members are reminded that the field is private land and entering is trespass; as well as potentially dangerous.
Please be respectful of our neighbours, and kindly remind others if seen attempting to enter the field.
Thank you as always for your continuing support of our great Club, and I look forward to seeing you all out on the course, and around the Club.
Happy Golfing…..
Captain Phil
