Challenge Match 29 – Not All Super Heroes Wear Capes
Challengers No 29 (and the very last Challengers of the season) were a mixture of old and new Members.
Adam Daly (who’s constant pestering had finally resulted in a Challenge) and relatively new Member Trevor Brown (who wondered what he’d done to deserve this)
Following a hearty brunch to celebrate the Captain’s birthday, it was off to the first.
Although it was a fine sunny day, there was something a rumbling……and it wasn’t the weather!
‘Methane Man’ Adam hard started his bit for global warming!
Pars for Captain & Trevor (who drove for show………but actually putted out)
All Square
Another par for Captain on the second was enough to beat Methane Man’s bogey. Meanwhile, Trevor was putting back and forth attempting to get the little white thing in the hole.
1 Up
A solid par from Vice on the 3rd was enough as Trevor struggled to finish on the green despite a wonderful drive and iron shot..…3 putts to finish for Dough Man.
2 Up
Methane Man let rip on the 4th…..and then hit a nice tee shot. His 4 was enough.
1 Up
‘Dough Man’ Trevor again failed to finish with a par despite being on the green from the tee. The Captain shared the hole with a rescue shot from the trees.
1 Up
A par from the Capt secured the 6th while Methane Man blamed the wind for his score of 8.
2 Up
Honours shared on the 7th and a test for Methane Man on the 8th. He declined to use the loo (to the relief of all ladies at the Club) and rumbled on.
Vice’s 5 was enough as Dough Man 3 putted …….just for a change.
3 Up
Vice decided to play 2 into the water and left it to the Capt….who finished with a birdie.
Methane Man almost sunk a 4/3…..but just missed. Not quite the sweet smell of success.
4 Up
The ladies had kindly arranged halfway house refreshments for the Captain’s birthday, with lots of tea and cake.
After a lovely rendition of ‘Happy Birthday Mr Captain’, Marilyn Monroe impersonators Francis Clyne and Diana Clitheroe waved the players off wondering what that sound of thunder was all about.
Methane Man failed to score on the 10th after his fuel stop, but his partner Dough Man won the hole after finally 2 putting. Was his ‘Drive for show..put for dough’ curse finally over?
3 Up
Nope! Despite being the only one on the green, with Capt & Vice both bunkered, Dough Man managed another 3 putt to half the hole.
3 Up
Vice won the twelfth with a 4/3 as Dough Man missed a chance…..with another 3 putt.
4 Up
On 13, both Capt & Vice finished in the water as Dough Man finally 2 putted for a par.
3 Up
A par on the Capt’s favourite hole was enough, as both Super Heroes Methane Man and Dough Man went out of bounds.
4 Up Dormy
A super drive by Dough Man on the 15th led to a win as Methane Man demonstrated that ex US President isn’t the only Trump you will find on a golf course.
3 Up Dormy
The Challengers now had the wind in their sails, as Capt & Vice had the wind in their nostrils.
On 16, Vice had a 5 on his card as Dough Man had a short putt to win the hole and continue the fight……..missed! It was all over.
Won 3 & 2
Capt & Vice could now blow their own trumpet, having achieved the win needed for a season average record of 2 to 1 wins. Not even Manchester City could achieve that last season.
Our thanks to Adam & Trevor for taking on the challenge.
It was a good match with great company and good fun as always.
No more Challengers as that was the last Capt Vice Challenge of the season.
We would like to sincerely thank all those who have taken up the challenge and for offering their wonderful support.
The Captains Charity has benefitted to the tune of over £300 and the ‘Avon Ladies’ Sharren Kjenstad & Linda Day will now enjoy their spoils at the Captain Vice Dinner.
Well done ladies……..
Final Record: 19 Wins 0 Draws 10 Loses
Happy Golfing
