Captain’s address - Feb
As the competition season draws closer, there’s still work to be done before it gets super busy. The course is holding up well considering the wet weather, as many other courses have closed. The Green Staff are worth their weight in gold. Much appreciated!
On the 30th January we had a New Members Evening. 8 members were welcomed with a drink at the Bar and given a brief history of the Club, how things work and had any questions answered. The rest of the evening we had a little pitching fun in the Swing Studio. An easy way of meeting the Newbies so they can get to know me, Lady Captain Linda, Vice Captain Ash, Seniors Captain Paul and the inimitable PJ who drove the studio computer. Such fun!
All New Members are urged to speak to me or any Committee Person if they need help with Scorecards, PSI computers, HowDidiDo app and Comp Funds; or just finding friends to play with. Single play is ok to practice but the social game will keep it fun for years!
Sunday 1st Feb was my last Sunday cooking the bacon and sausage baps in the Hut. I loved doing it, meeting the Members and starting off my charity campaign. The generosity of the players have seen the money reach over £1600. Thank you all and especially those that helped each time. My wonderful Wife Nichola did a few stints of cooking
Vice Captain Ash Butten has the Men’s Friendly Fixtures going up on the changing room boards. Please keep an eye out and add your name if you wish to play. Ash is also sorting out the CAGU matches and the Captain/Vice Challenges. Two and a half months in and he is already a legend!
Saturday 14th Feb we have the Mixed Valentines Texas Scramble. Four ball fun and the first comp of the year. 21 teams of four playing from the blue tees with the new scorecards. Just another day at the office for the Comps Team but the behind the scenes work has been considerable. Thanks to Chris, Andy and especially Howard for the time he has spent on those cards. The Members will enjoy filling the details in properly I’m sure.
Club Member Sam Arthur has returned to Mississippi to continue his golf education. Sam has grasped this opportunity with vigour and is achieving great results. A knee injury just before coming home for the Christmas Holidays disrupted his progress but all the ground lost has been regained, and then some. Dad Karl flew out to see him this week and no doubt the family support helps him out there.
College sports in America is unbelievably popular and Sam is on his way to becoming a sports star! Go Sam
KR,
Captain Rich
