Captain’s address Jan 2026
For the Club Captain, the Christmas and New Year break is a time to draw breath; relax and get your feet back on the ground. The overwhelming excitement of becoming Captain has calmed and now begins the ‘journey’. The reality is, there are imminent meetings, matches and presentations to plan, play and throw on the jacket for. Bring it on I say, but it does need to fit in with home and work life so it will get spicy.
The Comps Team- Chris Brown, Howard King and Andrew Coulthurst; along with Paul Judge giving technical and handicap support - have been busy putting all the years competitions on the Club V1 system, so they appear on the Members Howdidido at the appropriate time for booking. This ground work sets up the year and then the crazy season starts with drawing playing partners, preparing scorecards and finding eventual winners that get their names on the Boards and Silverware. Every Captain appreciates the voluntary effort that ensures a smooth presentation.
CAGU (Cambridgeshire area golf union) have sent out the 2026 entry form for the County matches. Greensomes League, Derek Burridge Knockout, Jock Stewart Trophy, Seniors Club Knockout, Seniors Champion Club and the Singles/Pairs Knockouts all need organising by the Vice Captain- Ashley Butten. These prestige events are an honour to play in, some by request and others by right of winning particular Club Comps in 2025.
The Scratch League and Ladies Section have their own CAGU events to sort out, as well as Club Matches and Mixed Events. Busy Bees everywhere!
Evolution is unstoppable even at RGC. The Members now have the Blue Course available, many tees have new concrete pads and mats, to save the grass tee area from Winter wear and tear. The Red Course is still out there for those Ladies playing eclectic rounds through the Winter.
Howard King has kindly redesigned the scorecards to accommodate the Blue course and those will be available shortly.
Two new PSI computers will be arriving, one on each of the changing rooms. The Club is financing this hardware to enable easier sign in and score entry. The Club has asked Members to download the new Howdidido app that will link in and upgrade the current system. We all love a bit of technology!
We at Ramsey GC eventually had to have some Winter weather. Frozen solid followed by lots of rain has caused a few hole closures, but the drainage work will enable a speedy reopening. I'm not a weather guru, but I’m sure the Spring and Summer will be glorious 😁
Kind regards,
Rich Mason
