The Club has the honour to recognise the personal contribution of one of our great Clubs, longest serving members this evening.
John Brookes (Brooksie) first joined this Golf Club in the early 70’s when he and his wife Barbara moved into the area.
He very quickly established and endeared himself to the Members, and soon accepted Captaincy of the our Golf Club in 1979.
John was a very proficient golfer and to this day, I have never played with a golfer who was so consistently straight with every shot.
His name on so many boards and trophies bears witness to this.
Able to cut the corner of the 8th with an iron was his signature shot, and his consistent and accurate play no doubt contributed to his 8 holes in one! What a career total!
His last one came on the 2nd hole, in his first round out of hospital after a long recuperation following serious illness few years ago! Quite remarkable.
A true gentleman golfer and font of knowledge and sound advice.
There isn’t a role within the Club which Brooksie hasn’t undertaken…… and all with his trademark humour, enthusiasm and total commitment.

Behind every great man is a great woman, & John wouldn’t have been able to fulfil all these responsibilities; and more, without the unswerving support of his lovely wife Barbara.
So the Club recognises & thanks you also Barbara, for your support and contribution to John and the Club.
I have had the honour and privilege of playing golf every Friday with Brooksie since I first joined the Club over 20 years ago, and he still comes down to meet the boys every Friday morning for chips & coffee! A nice precursor to his attendance at the now legendary Friday night Club in our bar.
Despite reluctantly retiring from playing the great game; which I know he misses, John’s love and enthusiasm for the Club has never diminished.
He has always been held in the highest regard; someone who commands respect from all those who have the privilege to know him & to meet him.
For all these reasons and more Brooksie, the Club would like to respectfully bestow on you,
